FAMILIES PLUS SOCIAL WORKER

Family Service is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. For over 53 years, we have provided professional therapy and educational programs throughout Nova Scotia.
Location: Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia
Qualifications: Our Agency is seeking an individual with a Bachelor of Social Work degree who has experience working with families. This position is a full-time permanent position. The worker will need to work flex hours involving evenings and weekends.
Position Requirements: Reporting to the Coordinator of Families Plus Program, the ANS Families Plus Worker is responsible for delivering the Families Plus program which is an intensive home-based client centered program to families who identify as African Nova Scotian. Skills required for the position include, but are not limited to: child development, knowledge of community resources, knowledge of child welfare system, trauma and violence informed support, and parenting. Additional skills for the ANS social worker include:
- The ability to apply knowledge and experience of African Nova Scotian communities to the work
- The ability to contribute to overall support and learning development for African Nova Scotian families in the Families Plus Program
- The ability to monitor the progress of African Nova Scotian families
- Demonstrated knowledge of the issues and concerns facing African Nova Scotian families
- The ability to work as a collaborative team member
- The ability to apply Afrocentric knowledge and work within established guidelines, policies, and procedures
- The ability to apply knowledge, experience, and commitment in the areas of race relations, cross cultural understanding, human rights and diversity
- The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality
Persons considered for this position must have membership in good standing with their professional regulatory association, a clear police background check, and a clear child abuse registry check, and a driver's license.
