About PLEIS-NB

PLEIS-NB is an independent, charitable non-profit organization with a mandate to provide education and information about the law to the people of New Brunswick. http://legalinfonb.ca

About the role

PLEIS-NB has received funding to support a bundle of information and awareness resources and projects that address gender-based violence and domestic violence in New Brunswick.

The new Community Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing these projects, which include a mix of PLEIS initiatives and external projects that are currently being supported by committees. This role will involve working closely with the PLEIS legal team, a Communications Officer, and external stakeholders. No legal experience is necessary, but the successful candidate will have demonstrated an understanding of gender-based violence and the social services environment in New Brunswick.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the PLEIS legal team to update and improve PLEIS resources addressing abuse and violence (eg. https://legalinfonb.ca/legal-info/abuse-violence/);
  • Maintain, promote, and support ongoing training for the following projects:
    • The "It's Your Business" DIPV in the Workplace Toolkit (https://www.toolkitnb.ca/home/);
    • Safer Places NB (https://saferplacesnb.ca/);
  • Provide project management and co-ordination support to the committees responsible for Silent Witness NB (http://www.silentwitness.ca/) and other community GBV initiatives;
  • Sit on provincial committees related to gender-based violence on behalf of PLEIS-NB;
  • Create and implement an outreach strategy for this work, which may include elements like:
    • Co-ordinating mail-outs;
    • Tabling at community events;
    • Running simple workshops on GBV and/or GBV resources (either in person or over Zoom);
    • Meeting with partners and new organizations to inform them about the GBV projects and/or connect them with our services;
    • Organizing and/or hosting events at libraries or other community spaces around the province; and/or
    • Other initiatives as developed by the Community Project Manager and PLEIS team.
  • Track outputs and help compile data for reporting to funders;
  • Undertake occasional single-day travel to locations around New Brunswick to meet with community partners and participate in events;
  • Contribute to the general good functioning of the GBV projects and PLEIS as a whole; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (social work, law, gender studies, etc) or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender-based violence and intimate partner violence
  • Experience in at least one of these categories:
    • Working in the community sector,
    • Working on public awareness or advocacy campaigns,
    • Conducting outreach,
    • Supporting survivors of domestic violence, or
    • Managing projects
  • Comfort with standard MS Office tools
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and also as a responsible and collaborative team member
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with other organizations, people, and groups

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Our successful candidate will probably have some of the following traits.

  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Familiarity with social services in New Brunswick
  • Knowledge of the law and legal services in New Brunswick
  • Valid NB driver's licence (for occasional in-province travel)
  • General understanding of trauma-informed approaches to service delivery
  • Comfort with public speaking, facilitating workshops, and talking to new people

PLEIS-NB is committed to maintaining an equitable, transparent, and respectful working environment for all of our staff. We value both accountability and flexibility in all of our working arrangements. Hybrid work is available wherever it is compatible with a person's tasks; the majority of our staff work at least one day per week from home. Our office tends to be casual, friendly, and engaged. Like at many non-profits, everyone pitches in on administrative work or special projects from time to time.

The majority of our staff are fluently bilingual. Internally, we communicate in English.

All of our permanent and long-term staff earn above the living wage for Fredericton. Staff have regular 1-on-1 meetings with their supervisor, to answer questions, receive support and exchange feedback. This position reports to the Executive Director.

How To Apply

Please send a cover letter and resume to [email protected], with the subject line "Community Project Manager application: [your name]". The deadline is Tuesday July 16.

We will follow up with selected candidates to do a quick phone screening and/or interview.
