What you will do

The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is seeking an individual to join the Kings Landing team as a Carpenter.

As a member of the team, you will have the unique opportunity to work on heritage restorations. You will also be responsible for the following key activities:

  • Constructing, maintaining, and repairing wooden equipment and structures (interior and exterior)
  • Rough framing, finishing work
  • Helping to pour concrete
  • Roofing, drywalling, and related tasks
  • Operating and repairing power tools
  • Making estimates
  • Keeping records
  • Performing related work as required

Work Environment

  • Location: Kings Landing, Prince William, NB
  • Environment: Indoors / Outdoors. May work in adverse weather conditions (sun/heat, rain, snow, cold) and working from heights. The work site is noisy and dusty.
  • Standard hours of work: Shift work and/or variable hours including weekends

Operational Requirements

You must be prepared to:

  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing more than 25 pounds. Bending, crouching, kneeling
  • Climb ladders and work at heights
  • Work outside for long periods of time
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment
  • Work in accordance with specified safety procedures
  • Wear all required safety equipment
  • Work with minimal supervision

Who you are

To be successful in this role, you have a great respect for health and safety procedures. You are able think critically and problem-solve.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have

  • Completion of grade 10
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related work experience
  • A valid class 5 driver's license as issued by the province of New Brunswick
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Written and spoken competence in English or French is required

Nice to have

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in carpentry
  • Valid Emergency First Aid/CPR certification
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures

Salary: $23.72 per hour
