Our Team:

The Thompson Analytical Services Team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer. We aim to plan the production, monitor, improve and report the performance of the Thompson Concentrator operation through technical excellence in the areas of metallurgy, ore handling, crushing, grinding, flotation, dewatering and concentrate handling.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Analytical Laboratory Technician to join our Technical Services Team in Thompson, Manitoba. This is a permanent position.

Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, the role holder will perform chemical and instrumental analyses on a wide variety of samples from the Thompson mines and various stages of the nickel extraction process.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Perform chemical and instrumental analyses on various samples and other duties as assigned by a chemist or lab supervisor.
  • Implement new methods and procedures in the lab as developed by the chemist.
  • Clean and maintain analytical equipment, instrumentation and work areas and assist in troubleshooting.
  • Communicate with the plant supervisors and respond to analytical requests.
  • Ensure safe use of chemical and laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Provide training and assistance to new employees.
  • Use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to track and report sample results according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Calculate and report results of routine and non-routine chemical analyses according to Standard Operating procedures.
  • Use Computerized Analytical Instrumentation Software driven such as, but not limited to, ICP-OES, LECO, and AAS, etc.

About You:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or relevant technical college diploma.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset.

Skills:

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently to achieve outcomes with minimum supervision.
  • Value, build and maintain strong working relationships with peers and team members.
