ABOUT THE ROLE
The Heritage Conservation Ambassador will work with the DesBrisay to contribute to the heritage collection's preservation and access, and to celebrate the built heritage of the Town of Bridgewater. Key functions include research about artifacts, archives, and other museum holdings to enrich their narrative, maintain artifact databases to reflect the most accurate information, and build online presence and outreach regarding the DesBrisay's holdings and Bridgewater's built heritage database to ensure public accessibility and use.
ABOUT YOU
As the Heritage Conservation Ambassador, you have a demonstrated interest in history, community culture and heritage, architecture, and or heritage engagement.
Key Qualifications:
- Must be a full-time student, graduated from a post-secondary institution or community college in the last two years and be registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory. Candidates for interview will be chosen from the registry.
- Preference will be given to graduates from heritage carpentry, architectural, museum studies or history programs.
- A general knowledge of local history, architecture, and a fluency in French is not require but is considered an asset.
- Scheduling/task management
- Good communication skills, especially writing and reading comprehension
- Public speaking/ Presentation skills
- Familiar with local culture, including an interest in regions history and heritage
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
- Non-union, term position
- Full time (35 hours per week, variable schedule)
- 23 weeks (Sept 3, 2024 - February 8, 2025)
- Wage: $23.50/ hour
- Location of work: 130 Jubilee Street, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia (DesBrisay Museum)
- Days of work Tuesday to Saturday, with variable hours to be negotiated with supervisor. Regularly scheduled hours require weekend work and may be required to work evenings. Flex time arrangements possible. No overtime pay.
- Incumbent must be willing to submit to a security check.
