Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.
What you will do
This position will offer the opportunity to lead, manage and implement a range of projects.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Archaeology, Environmental Sciences and Indigenous Relations within the Environmental Services Branch the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:
- using technical expertise to navigate regulatory processes for infrastructure/construction projects;
- planning, designing, conducting and managing fish habitat assessment and fish sampling programs;
- coordinating/overseeing and/or conducting NBDTIs project screenings and impact assessments for fish and fish habitat in support of permitting (e.g., WAWA and FAA, and offsetting);
- writing technical reports and contract specifications for infrastructure projects;
- monitoring pre¿post construction environmental monitoring and environmental mitigation;
- providing technical expertise in the areas of Species at Risk, fish and fish habitat;
- developing schedules, scopes of work, budgets, and recommendations for mitigation.

Essential Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Science, Environmental Resource Management, Forestry or a related discipline, from a recognized university or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated relevant experience and expertise in Aquatic Biology/Ecology
- Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following assets:
- knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation;
- knowledge of fish species of New Brunswick life histories and fish passage requirements;
- experience with GIS.
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:
Pay Band 5: $2,450.00 to $3,422.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
