Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Preventative Maintenance Coordinator to work with our Technical Services department. The successful candidate may choose to work from either our North Sydney, NS or our Port aux Basques, NL location.

The Operations Division is the largest division within Marine Atlantic and includes the major functional areas of Fleet Operations, Technical Operations, Shore Operations and Passenger Services. The focus of the Operations Division is to provide safe and reliable service for all of Marine Atlantic's customers. Technical Operations ensures that the fleet meets maintenance requirements in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Reporting to the Director, Technical Services, the Preventative Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for coordination and monitoring of the computerized maintenance management program (CMMS) for vessels. The position analyses the data collected, prepares reports and makes recommendations to improve the vessel maintenance management program ensuring the vessels remain in Class compliance including proper record keeping and ensuring that the correct numbering is used in any work order or materials/inventory transactions.

Additional responsibilities include:


• Monitors the maintenance management program based on best practices in the marine industry, with an emphasis on planning and scheduling and computerized preventative and predictive maintenance program.
• Tracks benchmarks and industry best practices, analyzes and recommends improvements to key performance indicators (KPI's).
• Provides maintenance management compliance oversight for vessel / ship engineering staff.
• Communicates and works directly with vessel deck and engine department, liferaft shop and shore departments to coordinate preventative maintenance work orders.
• Maintains the CMMS for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history.
• Through the maintenance management system constantly monitors the operation of equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvements.
• Prepares reports, analyzes data, and highlights emerging issues or trends within the departmental data.
• Ensures staff are adequately trained and have the necessary equipment so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
• Monitors equipment reliability through the effective use of a planned maintenance program.
• Monitors and keeps updated record of the use and inventory of critical spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment.
• Ensures good two-way communication between vessel and shore staff on the maintenance program.
• Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the maintenance staff.
• Ensures the corporate safety program is upheld through the maintenance management program.

Qualifications:


• Degree or Diploma in a Marine, Technical or Mechanical field.
• Minimum two (2) years' experience working with detailed computerized documentation in Materials Management or Maintenance Management Computer Systems.


OR


• a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience in a related position.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):


• Demonstrated knowledge of Marine technical terms and Hierarchies as presented onboard vessels.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with end users with a keen understanding of related technical terms.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Access.
• Ability to work effectively with computerized maintenance management systems and instruct others on its operation. Familiarity with SAP would be considered an asset.
• Proficient communication and interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively within teams and cross functionally.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Assets):
• Must be willing to participate in maintenance seminars for additional learning in maintenance practices.
• Experience in maintaining and/or monitoring a Computerized Maintenance System.
• In-depth knowledge and experience of marine maintenance.
• Experience in setting up and delivering training for maintenance systems.
