The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Supervisor, Water Treatment Plant to join our Water Treatment team in Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a permanent position, working Monday to Friday and be available for on-call.

As a Water Treatment Plant Supervisor, you must be available for on-call and act as management's ORO when required based upon licensing qualifications and respond to site within 30 minutes (required). Your experience and skills will support multiple operating plants to ensure the supply of safe drinking water as well as the operation of industrial wastewater plants in order for us to meet our environmental commitments.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Liaise with Vale Environmental Control and Government Agencies and agents.
  • Act as management's Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) and maintain all required operating licenses as required by Regulations according to plant classification.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and audit management systems to achieve and sustain compliance with Vale policies, legislated standards, design criteria, and industry best practices.
  • Keep abreast of Vale policies, legislated standards, design criteria, and industry best practices related to wastewater treatment and potable water production.
  • Accept and process 1st stage grievances for treatment plant operators. Liaise with the area Human Resources Business Partner and Superintendent on CBA-related issues.
  • Work in a team environment and take initiative, manage multiple and changing demands and priorities while working independently and with other staff.
  • Available at all times to direct the Operators in Charge (OIC) for operations of the potable & wastewater treatment plants, to provide operational oversight, and to respond immediately and effectively to emergencies.
  • All licensed water operators are expected to act and behave with a view to ensuring the safety of public health for the protection of the environment and maintaining the integrity of the operator certification/license program.

About You

Education:

  • Grade 12 level education or GED equivalency is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-secondary studies in environmental, chemical, or civil backgrounds.
  • A valid MECP certification minimum Level III Water Treatment is required.
  • First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection training is an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of water treatment operational experience.
  • Supervisory experience in the field is an asset.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of applicable provincial legislation including but not limited to OWRA, SDWA, OHSA, Regs. 170/03, 128/04, 319/08, 903/90, and DWQMS is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with all Microsoft Office applications (SAP considered an asset).
  • Valid driver's license (preferred).
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to manage a unionized workforce with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of water and distribution systems and wastewater treatment operations to facilitate proper operations of the facilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent technical skills, mechanical skills, and safe work practices.
  • Excellent records management skills in compliance with provincial legislation.
