Purpose of position:
Provide support to department heads and financial reporting on accounting and finance related issues. This position will also act as a resource to the Finance Department for large scale data analysis/reporting, and to identify opportunities for process improvement/automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the month end close process for the respective BFO area of responsibility, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of related costs in the GL. Manage accrual working papers and provide feedback-ensuring balances are supportable and appropriate.
- Prepare and import into Epicor accruals for significant revenues and expenses, maintain reconciliations and supporting backup for each transaction.
- Prepare and import into Epicor recodes and other journal entries, including cost allocations for inter-company and ancillary transactions.
- Ensure all relevant accounting records are kept with a high degree of accuracy.
- In coordination with Treasury, prepare and issue invoices to customers with supporting backup.
- Validate and code invoices in Ariba when required.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare audit papers quarterly and respond to audit questions received.
- Review and adjust spend details prior to close for reasonability.
- Prepare variance analysis and explain revenue vs expense, planned vs paid, year over year, and quarter over quarter.
- Measure and report on Key Performance indicators (KPI's).
- Communicate with senior management and executive on financial results and variances.
- Point of contact for the various branch managers and directors on accounting and finance related issues.
- Prepare and review cost summaries and variance explanation reports for Directors and VP's.
- Prepare and import into Epicor accruals for significant revenues and expenses, maintain reconciliations and supporting backup for each transaction.
- Support the Manager, Financial Services for the respective BFO area of responsibility in planning and preparation of the annual Budget, Outlook, and CPA rate reset processes. Provide recommendations, assistance and support for the department managers and directors.
- Coordinate with department leads in the maintenance or creation of cost models for major revenues and expenses, incorporating KPI's and core assumptions/historicals to create predictive estimates.
- Support department leads with historical spend and trending reports for decision making.
- Record and import forecast templates to Epicor.
- Prepare reports and provide explanations on variances from previous forecasts to Directors and VP's
- Preparation and determination of Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA) rates. These rates are required for billing Air Canada and are part of the Commercial Contract Negotiations.
- Review large Financial and Operational data sets to identify trends and savings opportunities.
- Coordinate with department leads in the maintenance or creation of cost models for major revenues and expenses, incorporating KPI's and core assumptions/historicals to create predictive estimates.
- Review existing procedures within the respective BFO area, to streamline process and increase efficiencies, while improving our financial reporting and management information.
- Assist Manager, Financial Services on review and approval of AFC and signing authority requests.
- Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a post-secondary degree or diploma.
- Must have completed or be in the process of acquiring a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation.
- Must have at least 3 years of work experience in a Finance Analyst role.
- Strong Analytical Skills, quantitative and project planning skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate on various levels through multiple mediums.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to meeting deadlines, achieve objectives and work under pressure.
- Ability to quickly grasp essential issues, analyze alternatives and recommend appropriate solutions.
