Job Description

Nursing Education Coordinator II (Clinical Educator), Temporary Full-Time (Approximately 6 Months), International Nurse Educator, Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor

Definition of work:
Reporting to the Provincial Director of Learning and Development, this position will promote quality evidence-based nursing practice through education and professional development of Internationally Educated Nurses. The incumbent will mentor IENs with client assessments using documentation particularly for assessment and monitoring of acute and chronic disease management e.g., assessment, investigation, follow-up, and evaluation. The incumbent develops, implements, and revises orientation and professional development programs for IENs based on identified learning needs, practice outcomes, education program effectiveness and best practices to ensure effective integration in the clinical environment. The incumbent will provide visible clinical and professional leadership, acting as a role model for staff to support the integration strategy for IENs. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Duties: (include but not limited to)
* Provides education support to nurses by responding to identified learning needs based on clinical best practice, professional standards, and performance deficits. Support includes the development of individualized learning plans and the evaluation of clinical competence;
* Plans, develops, delivers and evaluates educational programming to help prepare staff for implementation of nursing model, programs and clinical practices, including leadership training, programming to enable nursing staff to work to their full scopes of practice, and other role training as required to support nurses in the practice environment;
* Maintains professional standards of practice respecting the needs of the adult learner, through the demonstration of effective clinical, teaching and leadership skills and participation in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical practice, policies and procedures;
* Works collaboratively with managers, leaders, departments and professional groups to facilitate successful navigation through the change process;
* Fosters an environment that utilizes effective strategies to integrate research into clinical practice;
* Provides consultative services to internal and external partners to enhance professional practice;
* Provide orientation to staff as required;
* Deliveries a variety of education programs;
* Promotes an environment of excellence and continuous improvement in support of a quality culture;
* Development of nursing self-learning practices utilizing evidence based practices;
* Travel will be required;
* Other related duties.

Required qualifications:
* Undergraduate degree in nursing, or willingness to complete. Candidates without the undergraduate degree must complete a minimum of two courses per year.
* Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* Minimum of Five (5) years clinical experience in acute care, medical, or surgical nursing experience
* Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
* Demonstrated;
* consistent professional approach,
* commitment to the organizational values and displays those values in all components of work,
* strong leadership ability,
* knowledge of the principles of adult learning, staff development and performance reviews,
* ability to manage conflict,
* understanding of lean improvement methodologies,
* understanding of the evaluation process and the QI process
* commitment to personal continuing education,
* ability to work with computers including the Meditech system,
* superior written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and facilitation skills,
* ability to prepare and present educational material in an effective, concise manner,
* ability to develop comprehensive learning needs assessment of clients and staff and develop work objectives based on results of assessment,
* knowledge of current nursing research and practice standards.

* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the local police authority.

Preferred qualifications:
* Conflict resolution training.
* Previous teaching experience.
* Nursing leadership course.
* Lean green belt training.
* LEADS training.

Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)
