Intermediate/Senior Terrestrial Biologist - St. John's, NL
Jump Recruitment Specialists has partnered with SEM in search of a full-time permanent Terrestrial Biologist for their St. John's location.
The successful candidate will work alongside team members on small to large scale environmental projects, spanning from baseline studies, research, and development, to monitoring and assessing environmental impacts, based on the responsibilities listed below.

SEM offers Environmental, GIS / Remote Sensing services, Construction Management, and Productions services. The Job
- Conduct and assist with terrestrial and aquatic field programs including but not limited to the following surveys:
- Bird surveys (visual, and auditory identification)
- Botanical surveys (common and rare plant ID)
- Habitat assessments and characterizations
- Population and demographics studies
- Rare lichen surveys
- Species at Risk surveys (Mammals, Birds, Lichens, Fish, etc.)
- Wetland delineation and functional assessment
- Rehabilitation work (habitat rehab, tailings revegetation, etc.)
- Environmental research and development
- Use and maintenance of field equipment (e.g., ATVs, boats, YSI, pH meters, outboard motors, optics, etc.)
- Technical writing and report preparation, often regarding terrestrial ecosystem components
- Annual and progress reports.
- EA registration/ Impact Assessment documents
- Proposal writing
- Presentation development
- Compilation of data and analysis
- Field data entry
- Data analysis and interpretation
Qualifications
- Completed bachelor's degree or Diploma in Biology or related science or environmental field
- Willingness to travel frequently for work (throughout Newfoundland and Labrador)
- Willingness to work in the field in challenging conditions in remote areas.
- Hiking over rough terrain and/or snow will be required.
- Working as a team
- Willingness to work overtime as required, including weekends.
- Technical writing experience
- Valid driver's license
Additional Desired Skills:
- Experience in data analysis using statistical software
- Experience in consulting industry
- Technical problem-solving skills are an asset
- Knowledge of federal and provincial endangered species acts and regulations
- Operation of trucks, boats, UTVs, ATVs, and snowmobiles
- Drone certification or operation experience
- Wilderness or advanced first aid training
- Strong oral and written communication
- Knowledge of relevant Environmental Assessment legislation is considered an asset
- GIS experience and knowledge is considered an asset
- Experience with statistics/statistical analysis is considered an asset
- General computer skills especially excel operations.
