Communicable Disease Control and Infection Control Coordinator
Temporary Full-Time
Location: To be Determined

About the Role

NL Health Services, Labrador-Grenfell Zone (LGZ) is responsible for a complete range of health services to just under 37,000 people in Northern Newfoundland and Labrador. The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional, administrative, development, implementation, leadership and coordination of the activities and staff involved in the provision of the communicable disease and infection prevention and control programs.
Qualifications:
" Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required;
" Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
" Completion of Basic Infection Prevent & Control Course; Infection Control Certification with (CHICA);
" Current BLS;
" Completion of a university level stats program is an asset;
" At least 2 years' experience as an IPAC/ Public Health/Community Health Nurse is required;
" Experience working in either CDC or IPAC related fields is an asset(preference will be given to a candidate with 6-7yrs experience as CDCN or 4-5yrs experience as IPAC Nurse);
" Demonstrated knowledge of epidemiology, research and evidence-based practice is required;
" Experience working in leadership and/or coordinator roles is an asset;
" Ability to work independently and exercise considerable judgment and initiative in performing duties;
" Excellent written, verbal communication skills; and proficient computer skills required;
" General knowledge of sterilization/decontamination, microbiology and infection processes is an asset;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check;

Duties: (Included but not limited to)
" Leads program planning by developing & implementing standards, policies, guidelines and education programs.
" Coordinates, plans, develops, and evaluates Communicable Disease Control (CDC) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program;
" Conducts research, surveillance, investigation & follow-up, evaluation, education, consultation for CDC & IPAC topics;
" Completes needs assessment of staff education related to CDC & IPAC to develop and coordinate appropriate learning activities;
" Provides & strengthens links between research & clinical practices by facilitating others' understanding & application of research;
" Writes & reviews policies, manuals, guidelines, and education materials for use by CDCN, Public Health Nurses (PHN), Infection Control Practitioners (IPC) and other health care professionals as required;
" Leads & coordinates immunization planning & implementation in collaboration with the Manager of Public Health;
" Acts as designate for the Medical Officer of Health receiving & interpreting CDC/IPAC lab reports from Public Health & other provincial health labs;
" Provides advice for outbreaks including visitor restrictions & cancellation of admissions for all facilities within LGZ and Personal Care Homes;
" Designs, collects, analyzes, manages, and reports findings from surveillance activities in order to implement evidence-based changes:
" Provides leadership, coordination and direction to Communicable Disease Control Nurses (CDCN) and Infection Control Practitioners (ICPs) including orientation, assignment of work duties, committees/special projects, reports and identifies professional development opportunities;
" Assists with and provides leadership to CDCNs, ICPs, & PHNs for investigating & following up with Communicable Diseases, Immunizations, infection control outbreaks, as well as coordinates prevention and control activities;
" Provides consultation and expertise to a variety of stakeholders, based on current and in-depth knowledge of CDC & IPAC and other related science;
" Provides guidance & recommendations on best practices for CDC & IPAC;
" Coordinates referrals of enteric diseases and dog bites reports to Environmental Health Offices with Service NL & assists with follow up as required;
" Helps support self-governing Indigenous communities with CDC concerns;
" Works closely with Indigenous groups, other agencies, professionals, and community groups involved with communicable disease control;
" Participates in proactive infection control risk assessment and makes recommendations;
" Attends, chairs/co-chairs, or represents CDC and IPAC departments on zonal and provincial committee;
" Engages in emergency preparedness from a Zonal and Provincial perspective;
" Establishes standardized CDC & IPAC programming with, central intake, policies, and protocols to guide practice;
" Maintains accurate records ( electronic and hard copy) and prepares and submits reports and statistics as required;
" Pursues continuing education opportunities to remain current in new methods and procedures;
" Work collaboratively with team members;
" Other related duties as required. Travel may be required. May be required to work alone.

Salary:

" NS-34 of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $48.21 to $59.79 per hour, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:
" 75 hours Bi-weekly; Variable shifts; on-call requirted.
