The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick is seeking a full-time Parliamentary Administrative Assistant to join the House and Committee Support team within the Office of the Clerk.

The Office of the Clerk provides impartial support in order to assist Members in carrying out their parliamentary functions as legislators and representatives of their constituents.

The Parliamentary Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing non-partisan administrative support to the Office of the Clerk and to the Committees of the Assembly. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • General reception duties including receiving, screening and responding to inquiries;
  • Document preparation, formatting, distribution and filing;
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of meetings;
  • Conference planning support;
  • Provide backup support to the Console Operator (operating microphones and creating console logs) during live proceedings of the Assembly and its Committees.

Duties in relation to Committees:

  • Prepare and distribute notices of meetings, agendas, schedules, documentation for committee members, minutes, transcripts, and committee reports;
  • Assist the Office of the Clerk in organizing public hearings, travel arrangements and coordinating the appearance of witnesses;
  • Record and file submissions made to committees;
  • Prepare and update committee membership lists;
  • Maintain committee records.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma supplemented by successful completion of a one year post-secondary program in a related field;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively;
  • Ability to take initiative and exercise judgement in planning and organizing.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability. Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration.

Asset Qualifications

  • Undergraduate university degree;
  • Knowledge of the structure of the Legislative Assembly and its committees;
  • Proficiency in writing, editing and proofreading.

Salary: Pay band 1-3: $1,561–$2,722 biweekly, depending on education and experience.
The ability to work extended and/or flexible hours is required during certain times of the year.
