JOB SUMMARY:
Forensic nurse examiners (FNEs) know the provincial and federal legislation related to trauma, crimes and violence. FNEs look after victims and perpetrators, i.e. people involved in situations of sexual assault, mistreatment of children/seniors, trauma, violence between adults, and sometimes death. FNEs provide timely, compassionate and non-judgmental care to victims of sexual assault and intimate partner violence as well as to child victims of mistreatment. The care in question may involve a forensic examination, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection prophylaxis, assessment and documentation of injuries, risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, referral to appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, and support and participation in legal action.
Candidates must take into consideration their personal opinions, attitudes and biases potentially undermining their ability to provide non-judgemental care within the context of trauma.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick;
- Valid SANE certification or previous SANE certification and FNE employment within the past three years and willingness to obtain this certification within six months;
- BLS training mandatory, with TNCC, PALS and ACLS certificates considered assets;
- Emergency room work experience considered an asset;
- Proven leadership skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deliver care within the context of trauma;
- Strong clinical assessment, problem-solving and critical thinking skills;
- Ability to write clear and concise documentation;
- Advanced skills in speculum vaginal examination or willingness to obtain the necessary training;
- Independence and flexible;
- Ability to prioritize tasks and perform several tasks at the same time;
- Ability to perform initial and continuing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and to provide nursing care involving appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic and safety interventions;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Physical ability to perform the assigned work;
- Good work history (performance and attendance);
- Adherence to professional ethical principles, the Network's management philosophy, and organizational values;
- Compliance with the rules of confidentiality set by Vitalité Health Network.
