Manager, Applications
As WorkplaceNL's Manager, Applications, you will be accountable for planning, designing and managing the support, acquisition/development, implementation, integration, and maintenance of critical business applications and related databases required by WorkplaceNL.
Role Responsibilities
- Assessing current and future business applications and related database requirements, identifying, prioritizing and recommending new business application initiatives, developing appropriate business cases and preparing budgets for new initiatives;
- Assigning IT development resources to effectively support and maintain business applications and related databases required for effective and efficient operation of WorkplaceNL;
- Ensuring the security, reliability, integrity and high availability of all business applications;
- Establishing service delivery metrics and working with staff to implement client service standards and best practices and achieve operational and service excellence;
- Ensuring delivery of service and maintenance of critical business applications in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, through application of best practices (i.e. ITIL incident, problem and change management) and timely decision making;
- Responsibility for the acquisition/development, testing, conversion and implementation of business applications and providing oversight throughout each phase of the development life
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
- Five years' of demonstrated experience in an IT leadership role with responsibilities for providing guidance and mentorship for staff. Also, experience in planning, organizing and controlling project activities combined with extensive knowledge of IT application architectures, databases and toolsets.
- Experience related to use of an industry standard project management methodology is a definite asset.
- Demonstrated experience in various programming languages such as C# and Java and frameworks such as Object-Oriented Programming.
- Demonstrated knowledge in Relational Database Management Systems such as Oracle and SQL Server.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to the development, implementation and support of mid to large scale business applications.
Soft Skills
- Strong human resource and technical management skills within a highly technical environment.
- High degree of interpersonal, negotiation, problem solving, decision making and communication skills.
- The ability to prepare reports and concise presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences is important.

- Managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines within budget.
- Ensuring effective and efficient applications delivery and support by supervising delivery teams, managing resources and work allocation across teams, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business needs.
