Psychiatric Licensed Practical Nurse II- Mental Health Unit
Temporary Call-In
Location: Goose Bay

About the Role
Reporting to the Manager of the Mental Health Unit, the primary purpose of this position is to work as an active member of the nursing/mental health team to provide a high standard of care to the patients/families of the mental health unit. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) is responsible for maintaining professional organizational standards and practice in accordance with the LGH model of nursing philosophy.

Qualifications:
" Graduation from an approved LPN educational program
" Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador
" Advanced Studies in Mental Health Certificate OR Canadian Nursing Association Psychiatric Nursing Certificate, or willingness to obtain in a time frame deemed acceptable by the employer
" Two years work experience in a multi-disciplinary mental health setting preferred
" Knowledge of computer skills and ability to work with Meditech and EMR is an asset
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties: (Included but not limited to)
" Provides mental health & addiction screening, assessment, intervention, referral, and psychiatric rehabilitation services from a holistic view
" Develops, coordinates and/or delivers health promotion, maintenance, and illness prevention activities
" Ensures that psychiatrist/ physician recommendations on treatment of patients are carried out; prepares and gives medication and injections according to psychiatrist/physician recommendations; charts patients' behavior and responses
" Participates in the development, revision, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans
" Provide safe, competent, and ethical nursing care and make decisions within the LPN scope of practice
" Practices independently according to professional and organizational standards
" Documents according to professional and organizational standards
" Consults with clients, psychiatrist, physician, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate plans of care are developed, implemented, and monitored
" Other related duties as required, travel may be required, may be required to work alone.

Salary:
" CGHSL-29 of the Nape HS Salary Scales, $29.62 to $32.62 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:
" 75 hours bi-weekly; Variable shifts; variable hours
