Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.
What you will do
The Design Branch is seeking individuals to join the Highway Design Unit as a Highway Design Engineering Technologist working in Fredericton.
As a member of the Highway Design Unit, the successful candidates will be responsible for:
- preparing and reviewing engineering contract documents such as plans, technical specifications, quantity calculations, estimates, electronic deliverables and shop drawings ensuring they meet departmental standards;
- performing and/or overseeing complex design work required for the timely completion of tender documents;
- providing technical support to Design/Project Engineers, consultants, data collection and processing, and other stakeholders involved in the design process (i.e. NBPower, communication companies, municipalities, other consultants, etc.);
- offering support in the process for the planning/design of highway design projects and providing technical engineering services for design of structures and hydraulics;
- assisting with the coordination of engineering consultants engaged in highway design projects.
Work environment:
- Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday
- Some travel within the province.
- Walking job sites as required throughout the province.
- Extended hours of work frequently required.

Essential Qualifications:
Engineering and Field Level VII:
- A two (2) year post?secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program with a minimum of six (6) years of highway design experience;
- Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists;
- Advanced technical knowledge of geometric highway design and must be comfortable working in a computerized environment, and a strong technical understanding of Transportation Association of Canada's (TAC) Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads, computer aided drafting and design, and road design;
- Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
Engineering and Field Level VI:
- A two (2) year post?secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program with a minimum of five (5) years of highway design experience;
- Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists;
- Advanced technical knowledge of geometric highway design and must be comfortable working in a computerized environment, and a strong technical understanding of Transportation Association of Canada's (TAC) Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads, computer aided drafting and design, and road design;
- Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
Engineering and Field Level V:
- A two (2) year post?secondary diploma in a Civil Engineering Technology program with a minimum of four (4) years of highway design experience;
- Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists;
- Advanced technical knowledge of geometric highway design and must be comfortable working in a computerized environment, and a strong technical understanding of Transportation Association of Canada's (TAC) Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads, computer aided drafting and design, and road design;
- Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

SALARY:
Engineering and Field Level VII: $2,145.00 to $2,705.00 bi-weekly (effective March 2024), based on a 36 ¼ hour work week.
Engineering and Field Level VI: $1,960.00 to $2,465.00 bi-weekly (effective March 2024), based on a 36 ¼ hour work week.
Engineering and Field Level V: $1,785.00 to $2,244.00 bi-weekly (effective March 2024), based on 36.25 hours per week.
