Pathologist Assistant, Temporary Full-TimeLaboratory Services - Anatomical Pathology, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) Central Zone
Definition of Work:
The Pathologist Assistant (certified) is an intensively trained medical laboratory health professional who provides anatomic pathology services. This position will be primarily responsible for the overall grossing of surgical specimens ensuring standards of practice under the direct supervision of the Division Head for Pathology and the Division Manager. Duties also include, but are not limited to, describing gross anatomic features, dissecting surgical specimens, performing postmortem evisceration and dissection, assisting with frozen sections, preparing tissue for histologic processing and handling/collecting biological specimens such as blood, tissue, bone marrow toxicological material and fine needle aspirates for studies such as flow cytometry, muscle histochemistry, immunofluorescence, image analysis and immunohistochemistry. Other assigned duties may include but not necessarily limited to administrative maintenance of surgical pathology protocols, specimen coding and billing, maintenance of equipment, and teaching.
The main work sites are in the towns of Grand Falls-Windsor and Gander at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and James Paton Memorial Hospital, respectively.

* Requires frequent lifting and moving objects less than 10 lbs. and occasional lifting of objects up to 30lbs or more.
* Requires standing, sometimes for extended periods, or sitting for extended periods and repetitive movement. Also, frequent bending or stretching and working in awkward positions.
* Requires fine finger and precision work and requires the use of gross motor skills to perform with accurate control and steadiness.
* Requires visual concentration when performing procedures and auditory concentration as part of communicating and informing, and listening for alarms, timers, etc.
Required qualifications:
* Master's Degree in Science based on formalized training as Pathologist Assistant is required or International Medical Graduate who has experience in Anatomic Pathology or other combination of training and experience deemed equivalent and eligible for certification by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA).
* Current and continuing certification with the CCCPA as a Pathologist Assistant is required.
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

Hours of Work: 70 hours biweekly (Shift work may be required)
Salary: LX-32 ($37.39-$47.42)
