Course Title: Topics in Education: Culturally Responsive Music Education (EDUC 5053 WI05)

Course Description:The topics course is designed to allow students to engage in the study of special topics that are of emerging interest in their core area. This particular course is designed to examine culturally responsive approaches to music education that respect and promote alternate concepts and strategies to supplement and influence traditional modes of music instruction. A literature-based examination of culturally responsive music education will provide a foundation for exploring and applying unique and emerging pedagogies in the field. This course is for graduate students enrolled in the Master of Education in Curriculum Studies Cohort focused on Music Education.
Qualifications:The successful applicant must possess at minimum, a Master's degree in the field, extensive related experience in music education, and experience in public education. Understanding of social justice and culturally responsive education is required. A thorough knowledge of the Nova Scotia school music curriculum is required. The preferred candidate would have music education experience in studies involving at least one unique culture.
Note: Candidates should be prepared to teach this course online using synchronous and asynchronous delivery platforms.
