Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

• You will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
• On a daily basis, you may be working on one or more research projects. This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.
• Innovative and committed to life-long learning, the Research Associate is a creative self-starter with a commitment to research excellence.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • A diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related field or discipline specific to the nature of the research. A Bachelor of Science in Earth or Environmental Science would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment.
  • Occupational experience that includes student project and other research employment would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail
  • You have practical experience with GIS software including Arc GIS as well as programming in Python. You have experience collection field data including water level sensors, time lapse cameras, operating drones as well as survey grade GNSS.
  • You have experience with processing topographic lidar and developing coastal flood vulnerability maps.
  • You are familiar with the term return periods and are knowledgeable about where and how storm surge return periods are calculated.
  • You are familiar with the climate change projections and specifically the implications in Atlantic Canada around relative sea-level rise.
  • Occupational experience that includes managing projects and outside clients, conducting fieldwork and analysis in the office and report writing.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset

  • You are a strong communicator.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to geomatics projects, for example managing the project and interacting with the client, maintaining timelines and delivering product on time.
  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to data and project management.
