Oncology Nurse/Cancer Patient Navigator
Number of Positions: 5
Travel Locum Premium Assignment
Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL

The Registered Nurse in this position reports to the Regional Manager of Community Supports and Rehabilitation Services. The primary purpose of this position is administer chemotherapy and to enhance the support provided to cancer patients and their families by coordinating and integrating services and care. The Nurse/Patient Navigator will act as an expert resource for the patient, the family, and other health care professionals and will foster collaboration and communication among service providers.

Qualifications:

" Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Nursing program is required;
" Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
" Completion of Chemotherapy Administration course;
" Cancer Patient Navigator course or willingness to complete in One year;
" Screening for Distress certificate or willingness to complete in One year;
" Two years current Oncology experience working with patients and families experiencing cancer;
" Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently;
" CNA Certification in Oncology is an asset;
" Current BLS/CPR Certification;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check;

Duties: (Includes, but not limited to)

" Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs including prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, supportive care, palliative care, client and professional education and research;
" Participates in the development and facilitation of client care activities and acts as a coordinating link between various members of the care team in order to assist clients in navigating a very complex system at a very stressful time;
" Liaises with Community Health Centre's Physicians, and Bliss Murphy Centre & Health Sciences Centre to develop a unified therapeutic plan which attains and maintains quality client care;
" Provides clinical leadership and support by acting as a resource, facilitator, coordinator, role model and advocate;
" Compiles statistics and communicates these to Regional Manager of Community Supports and Rehabilitative Services and other areas upon request.
" Consults with others to improve client care and to deal with complex and challenging situations;
" Administers chemotherapy agents as per the Cancer Care program of Eastern Health;
" Provides education and support to clients and families in receipt of chemotherapy;
" Facilitating with key stakeholders to create a clinical and supportive network for cancer patients and families;
" Organizes and schedules chemo treatments;
" May be required to travel;
" May be required to work alone;
" Other related duties;

Salary:

" NS - 28 (0.5) of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $37.86 - $47.16 per hour, and NS - 32 (0.5) of the RNUNL Salary Scales, $43.72 - $54.16 per hour;
" With a premium locum rate of an additional $25/hr. for hours working in the locum position. Locums must agree to work a minimum of fourteen (14) continuous days for this benefit to apply. Other benefits in accordance with the RNUNL Collective Agreement;

Hours of Work:

" Variable Shifts; On Call required;
" Flexible hours of work as per collective agreement plus standby coverage to accommodate
Chemotherapy infusion;
