Definition of work:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible to provide comprehensive assessment and care to clients. This is an advance practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous, comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including, but not limited to health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions, as well as, treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs for residents in long term care, patients in acute care and clients in the community setting.
The NP will work in partnership with multidisciplinary teams in long term care, acute care and community, to develop, lead, implement and evaluate best practice, policies, and standards of care and clinical services. The NP will assume a leadership role in influencing clinical practice and health outcomes, while collaborating with physicians, the broader healthcare team and community partners regarding complex and challenging resident/client care. The NP will ensure person and family centered care that wraps available resources around the individual wherever the individual resides.
The NP will establish a preventative, integrated, person and family centered approach driven by individualized assessment of needs and individual choice to promote aging in place. The NP will provide advanced nursing care including promoting health and well-being, preventing illness and injury, providing supportive care including palliation and treating illness and injury. The successful candidate will be committed to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
* Graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by Central Health.
* Current registration as a nurse practitioner with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
* Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
* Gentle Persuasive Approach or willingness to complete next available course.
* CNA certification in Gerontology or willingness to complete next available course.
* Demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and problem-solving skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in an interdisciplinary team environment.
* Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
* A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
* A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Demonstrated skill in using health care-based computer systems such as Meditech.
* Completion or willingness to complete next available course in ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NRP.
Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly (Shift work may be required)
Salary: NS-35 ($50.28-$62.40)
