Medical Laboratory Technologist I
Permanent Full Time
Location: Labrador City, NL

The Medical Laboratory Technologist I is a member of a team of Medical Laboratory Technologists, who performs laboratory testing in the Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Blood Banking and Water Testing Sections of the Medial Laboratory Department at the Labrador West Health Centre, under the medical direction of the Regional Medical Director of Laboratory Services/Regional Pathologist.

Qualifications:

" Successful completion, and graduation from High School;
" Must have trained as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at an approved and accredited Medical Laboratory Science training program;
" Must be a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science, (CSMLS), which must always be maintained and current;
" Must be registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals, (NLCHP), and must always be maintained and current;
" Must be experienced in using the Clinical Meditech Modules - Laboratory Information System, and the Hospital Information System;
" Must be willing to undergo additional education and ongoing training in timeline required by the employer;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a Satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties: (Included but not limited to)

" To perform diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with accepted laboratory standards, and the policies and procedures of Labrador-Grenfell Health;
" Performs diagnostic laboratory testing in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, and Microbiology in accordance with established laboratory policy and procedure on a rotating basis;
" Records and compiles daily and monthly unit statistics for the assigned department;
" Operates all the instruments in the laboratory with confidence and efficiency;
" Must always be an active part of the Medical Laboratory Team keeping all work areas clean and tidy;
" Assumes responsibility for the overall daily operation of the laboratory department as assigned by the Section Lead Technologist II and the Department Lead Technologist III;
" Participates and is a full member of the Medical Laboratory Department rotational schedule system of standby and shift work;
" May be required to attend meetings Regionally, Provincially, and may also be required to go out of province;
" Other related duties as required.

Salary:

" LX-27 of the NAPE-LX Salary Scales, $30.31 to $37.89 per hour, plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

Hours of Work:

" 70 hours bi-weekly, days, evening, and weekend shifts required, in addition to standby and callback duties.
