Job Summary
This position oversees the procurement department to ensure that all steel material is in place to meet production schedules. This role will be a proven leader by developing Ocean Steel's procurement strategy ensuring techniques and initiatives achieve business objectives in the most time sensitive and cost-effective way possible. The Procurement Manager must establish and maintain positive relationships with vendors and must also ensure detailed records of all purchase orders are kept.
The ideal candidate must be a proven leader with the ability to effectively manage a small team. They must be highly organized, with the ability to proactively plan and multitask. This is a position that requires a solid understanding of operations combined with the desire to develop and maintain relationships both internally and externally with a diverse workforce and key stakeholders .

Responsibilities
- Act as point of contact with vendors and suppliers including contract negotiations
- Manage the procurement team including training, check-ins, reporting and performance evaluations
- Continuously monitor suppliers, contracts, and vendor price fluctuations, identifying potential new suppliers as needed
- Manage departmental training and use of computer programs such as Fabtrol, JDEwards, Strumis and Bluebeam
- Facilitate weekly project updates to ensure all required materials are received on time to meet project deadlines
- Monitor and update relevant departments regarding market price fluctuations and changes in vendor pricing
- Oversee general procurement functions such as issuing purchase orders, batching and issuing shop drawings and processing inventory consumption
- Research strategies for increasing supply chain efficiency and provide recommendations to management when needed
- Escalate the pick-up or delivery of purchased items based on project schedules
Technical Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business/Supply Chain Management or a similar combination of education and relevant experience
- 5-10 years' procurement or supply chain experience within the Steel / Manufacturing industry would be an asset
- Working knowledge of the industry and market conditions as they relate to procurement
- Proficiency in various computer programs including the Microsoft office suite, Fabtrol, JDEdwards, Strumis and Bluebeam
- Additional procurement related certifications would be considered an asset
