Acadia seeks an energetic, engaging, motivated, and skilled Head Coach, Varsity Swimming in the Department of Athletics to lead and develop an exciting and competitive varsity swimming program. The Head Coach will:
- Coach, administer, manage and promote the Acadia Varsity Swimming program.
- Effectively lead the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological preparation of the team and student athletes.
- Develop, implement and monitor recruitment strategies to attract the best student athletes.
- Apply current AUS/U SPORTS rules and eligibility policies while ensuring compliance with Safe Sport.
- Organize and conduct practices and prepare the team for competition.
- Create an atmosphere that is conducive to a positive student athlete experience (includes monitoring of academic performance).
- Develop a positive team-culture that aligns with Acadia's values, promoting and encouraging an environment of responsible conduct and behaviour.
- Coach, in addition to in-season program, effective pre- and post-season development and training programs.
- Oversee youth swim camps and similar initiatives sponsored by the Department of Athletics.
- Develop positive communication relationships with the media, alumni, and local swim communities.
- Manage the team budget.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- We are seeking a candidate who has significant experience working with high performance athletes and who possesses the applicable coaching certification. A University Degree in a related discipline, along with administrative and teaching skills, is preferred.
- Exceptional organizational, management and communication skills are required, as is knowledge of AUS and U SPORTS regulations.
- The position requires a strong foundation of knowledge and technical proficiency as well as leadership, education and mentorship skills that facilitate high performance.
- Ability to maintain clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
