Eastern Mainland Housing Authority is recruiting for two full-time Grounds (Casual) positions until approximately April 9, 2021 for winter maintenance in the New Glasgow area. These are not bargaining unit positions.

Duties:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Lead Hand, the casual Grounds is responsible for providing grounds care, maintenance and housekeeping services for all exterior areas of Housing Authority properties that are not the responsibility of individual tenants. Completion of work assignments given must be kept within the standards and safe practices adopted by the Housing Authority.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or high school equivalent plus two years' related experience.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with tenants.
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools related to ground maintenance appropriately and safely.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Perform tasks in a safe manner according to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education and EMHA safety standards and policies.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to deal with co-workers, tenants, contractors and vendors, other departments, and the public in a positive, tactful, courteous and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • Work cooperatively with others and display a positive attitude to further the goals of the organization.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning and dealing with inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature.
  • Adaptable to change as the job requires, is receptive to new ideas and willing to try new methods and approaches.
  • Must be capable of bending, lifting, standing operate equipment involved in grounds work and perform manual labour through the use of good body mechanics.

Assets:

  • Possess current Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.

We will assess the above qualifications using one of more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Salary Range: $13.00 per hour

Work Week: 35 hours
