The Family Medicine Associates of Ottawa (FMAO) is a private partnership consisting of 20 full-time physicians involved in the delivery of clinical patient services, training & supervision of residents, research and administration in two Hospital clinics in the City of Ottawa.
We currently have an opening for a team oriented and organized Billing Clerk. This position reports to the President & Management Committee of FMAO.
Responsibilities
As part of the FMAO team, you will:
- Submit and track claims for fee for service payments to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care;
- Submit and track claims for payments by “Third Parties” such as Insurance Companies, law firms and so on;
- Determine appropriate billing codes for “inpatient/outpatient” visits or diagnostics in the relevant databases;
- Periodically meet with physicians to review billing and reporting procedures. Advise and recommend optimal best practices in support of accurate and timely billing for all services rendered;
- Review and assess Claims Error Reports, effect appropriate corrections and propose solutions to minimize/eliminate future billing errors;
- Apply payments for uninsured billings (payments by cheque in the mail), including Insurance Company payments, Quebec RAMQ payments, third-party and other payments;
- Perform reconciliations of third-party billings and payments, address EH2 problems and complete cursory reviews and corrections of physician billings;
- Develop and create “bundle/group codes” to expedite the billing process, and
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years' experience in an Accounts Receivable/Billing role;
- Community College diploma and / or significant experience in billing and accounts receivable management;
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy;
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing (bilingualism while not essential for this position, is a definite asset);
- Self-starter requiring limited supervision;
- Familiarity within a hospital setting is an asset;
- The successful candidate will be reliable, will take the initiative to resolve issues and problems, will be resourceful and possess interpersonal skills; and
- Advanced/Intermediate knowledge and experience with MS Office (Excel, Word and other Databases).
