Your role at GEI. Reporting to a Sr. Contract Administrator, the Field Inspector, will conduct daily inspections and maintain records for development-related activities such as earthworks, underground servicing, road works, and lot grading. The role requires attention to detail, strong organization, excellent written and verbal communication, and time management skills. Your role will involve close collaboration with project teams, clients, contractors, municipal staff, and other stakeholders, ensuring the completion of all infrastructure projects in accordance with construction drawings and design specifications. In this fast-paced and dynamic work environment, a strong commitment to teamwork is crucial, as you may be working with multiple project teams simultaneously. Essential Responsibilities & Duties:- Conduct thorough on-site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, codes, regulations, and quality standards.
- Monitor and document construction activities, discussions, progress, and potential issues, providing regular updates and reports to project managers and stakeholders.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, site progress meetings, and record, prepare, and distribute meeting minutes.
- Generate detailed daily reports on site inspections and progress, including capturing digital photographic records of site activities.
- Conduct comprehensive inspections focused on erosion and sediment control, and create corresponding reports.
- Record and maintain as-constructed information.
- Analyse construction drawings and specifications to verify adherence to the design.
- Immediately inform the contractor and Sr. Contract Administrator about any noted deviations from approved design drawings or any safety and environmental concerns.
- Inspect the materials, techniques, and construction procedures related to water and wastewater facilities, sewers, watermains, utilities, and roads.
- Execute day-to-day responsibilities in accordance with mandated Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and other Company policies.
- Assist in calculating quantities for progress payments.
- Coordinate and schedule on-site Material Testing.
- Demonstrate flexibility with working hours to accommodate project requirements and contractor schedules; occasional weekend work might be necessary.
- Conducting compaction testing using portable nuclear gauges for soils, granular materials, asphalt, etc.
- Sampling soil, granulars, and asphalt for laboratory testing.
- Concrete sampling, field testing, and casting test cylinders.
- Inspecting earthworks subgrade, foundations, and reinforcing steel.
- Performing geotechnical and materials laboratory testing (e.g., water contents, hydrometers, proctors, granular sieves, and concrete testing).
- Maintaining testing equipment in good condition, including calibrations.
- Presently enrolled in an accredited civil engineering program at a university or college.
- Solid understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods of structures, buildings and infrastructure.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and detail-oriented mindset with exceptional observational skills to identify deviations from plans and potential issues during site inspections.
- Knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS), Ontario Building Code (OBC), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations, and other standards and regulations associated with construction.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Possess a strong ability to effectively use computers and related technologies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Access to a vehicle in working order and a valid Ontario Driver's License.
