As a System Administrator within the QA organization, you will leverage your system administration expertise to maintain the integrity of our complex product domains. You will conduct thorough testing of the product at critical interaction points with the operating system, ensuring robust functionality. This role provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your system administration and testing skills through hands-on experience. You will collaborate closely with testers, developers, product owners, and managers to deliver a superior product that consistently meets and exceeds customer expectations.

Responsibilities

At JSI, your responsibilities may include:

  • Proactively monitor system heath of domains including both Linux and Windows nodes
  • Apply OS, database and security patches
  • Troubleshoot software issues including Puppet, ADFS, or Kubernetes
  • Setup new systems with differing configurations
  • Upgrade and deploy JSI software
  • Test multiple upgrade paths
  • Install and upgrade third-party tools
  • Design and execute testcases to test our products 'under the hood' where the product meets the OS
  • Open bugs and verify fixes
  • Monitor soak domain to identify long term issues
  • Monitor system performance
  • Create detailed internal documentation to assist team members
  • Verify external documentation for clarity and accuracy
  • Administer virtual machines in VMWare, create clones, monitor resources
  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and methodologies to continuously improve testing processes and system performance
  • Perform resiliency testing of JSI software
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and tools to streamline testing processes and improve efficiency

  • Technical Skills: Strong system administration skills with Windows and Linux, understanding of firewalls, routing and security
  • Experience: Familiarity with technologies like Kubernetes, CheckMk, Helm, Puppet, VMWare, Jenkins, SQL Server
  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Additional Assets:

  • Professional Experience: Experience in software quality assurance
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and understand Arabic, German, French, Spanish, or other languages
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the telecommunications industry, particularly telephony and networking
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Linux+, RHCSA, MCSA, CCNA) are a plus
  • Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) or automation tools (e.g. Jenkins/Selenium)

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. University or college graduate or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or in a similar role, with a focus on system testing and validation. Some experience in software quality assurance or related field.
  • Security Clearance: Eligible for top secret security clearance (no criminal activity or record, ten years of verifiable history).

How We Work

You will be expected to work in a remote/hybrid environment reporting to our Kanata, Ontario location 2 or more times per week.
