Tridon Communications is currently seeking a Cable Plant Data Entry Technician, Local to Fort McMurray to fill a 1-year contract on site.
Job Summary:
The Cable Plant Data Entry Technician will be responsible for retrieving and interpreting Engineering Work Packages and accurately inputting telecom cable plant data into management software. This is a key support role in ensuring the accuracy, organization, and integrity of telecom records and infrastructure data, while collaborating with field teams, engineering, and administration.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Retrieve and interpret Engineering Work Packages from Suncor document repositories (ALIM, SharePoint, etc.).
- Enter data from Engineering Work Packages/drawings into the telecom cable plant management software database (Hexagon G/Technology FOW and/or Patch Manager).
- Perform field audits and verifications.
- Adhere to site work permitting and safety requirements.
- Participate in team meetings, management, and administrative activities.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge/professional experience with Inside and Outside Plant fiber optic and copper telecom cable plant infrastructure in an Oil and Gas environment.
- 2+ years' experience in a telecom cable plant technician, telecom cable plant designer, telecom cable plant asset management or similar position.
- Ability to read and interpret telecom cable plant engineering drawings and work packages.
- Ability to accurately input, update, and verify information in digital systems ensuring data integrity.
- Strong computer skills including ability to quickly learn and navigate specialized software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Hexagon (GTech/FOW), Patch Manager, ALIM.
- BICSI telecom cable plant courses or certifications.
Must Haves:
- Diploma in Business Administration, Telecommunications, or related field.
- AutoCAD experience and ability to read and interpret electrical and telecom drawings is preferred.
- Experience with Asset Data Life Cycle Program (ADLP) or Enterprise Badge is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work safely in hazardous environments, as needed.
