Salary:

Classification 12, $29.26 - $30.17 per hour, as per BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional $0.58/hour in lieu of benefits and 6% vacation pay included with each pay period.


Description:

Financial Aid Officers provide information and guidance to new and returning students about budgeting; student financial assistance programs including loans, awards, and grants; funding eligibility and selection criteria; and student loan repayment options. The role also supports the administration of government student financial assistance, institutional awards and scholarships, and emergency aid programs, following established processes and criteria.

This position works as part of a team to support all students across the region. Financial Aid Officers meet with students and their supporters to determine their financial status and provide advice and guidance about financial assistance options available to help support the costs of post-secondary education. You will administer financial aid programs by liaising with provincial and federal government student loan bodies; entering appropriate student data into reporting systems to confirm and maintain aid eligibility; receive, process, and code student loan, grant, award, and scholarship applications; verify whether applicants meet preliminary eligibility criteria; and make recommendations for award and grant approval. The role requires that you develop and maintain thorough knowledge about student financial assistance sources, availability, policies, and procedures.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Successful completion of a one-year certificate (minimum 30 credits) in Business Management or Applied Business Technology (or equivalent).
  • One-year related experience in lending, banking, or financial management.
  • Experience and proficiency with a current version of MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including meeting deadlines and working effectively in a team.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, and sensitivity is essential.
  • Current and valid driver's license (some travel may be necessary).
