Children Wellness Worker Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:

The Childrens Wellness Worker Assistant will assist the Childrens Wellness Worker who functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
This position requires an adjusted work schedule; the Assistant will be required to work evenings and weekends to provide services when children are available.
Some of the work may be done in client homes where the incumbent may encounter infectious conditions and poor environments.
The position may be subject to stress related to dealing with children and families in distress, difficult people, and situations; the sensitive and sometimes disturbing nature of the situations; high volume workload; and complex cases.

POSITION DUTIES:

Identify and introduce promising and/or best practices that contribute to personal, family and community wellness.

Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate a range of evidence-based primary prevention workshops, activities, programs and/or presentations for children, parents and community using age-appropriate resources and technology.

Plan and implement a childrens recreation program.

Plan and facilitate evidence-based secondary prevention and/or educational programs to at risk children and families on an individual or group basis, at individual homes or community sites.

Collaborate on the planning and implementation of a variety of community events to promote personal, family and community wellness.

Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate child focused workshops and/or programs to share and transfer Anishnawbek traditional knowledge and/or practices.

Facilitate and supervise social, fitness, recreational and family activities.

Implement social marketing strategies to promote wellness, programs/services, and recruit participants.

Plan and facilitate evidence-based secondary prevention and/or educational programs to at risk children and families on an individual or group basis, at individual homes or community sites.

Develop, implement and/or coordinate a variety of child-specific healing and wellness programs and activities.

Collaborate with Youth Wellness Worker with relevant programs and/or activities.

Refer to other programs and services as needs are identified.

Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate programs and activities.

Participate in and support program evaluation processes.

Provide demographic, health status, statistical, and program information according to policy.

Collaborate with leadership, staff, community and partners in achieving the goals and objectives identified in the Community Health Plan, Sagamok Anishnawbek Ten Year Action Plan and other community development initiatives.

Collaborate as a member of the Professional Healing Team and other assigned community development initiatives.

Build and/or strengthen bridges between traditional and mainstream approaches to wellness.

Use technology and other resources to create print documents, electronic and other program resources, and materials.

Comply with Unit, Band, and funding accountability standards (including but not limited to personnel, program and administrative forms; program logic models; work plans; narrative and data program reports and quality assurance practices).

Participate in regular supervision, staff and corporate meetings as directed.

Participate in and support program evaluation processes.

Represent the interests of Sagamok Anishnawbek on assigned committees or groups.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Must demonstrate enrollment as a full-time student in the previous academic semester school and be returning full time in the fall of 2025/2026 Academic school year.

2. Must be eligible for Sagamok Anishnawbek ISETP program funding (member of Sagamok, valid SIN #)

3. Must have, or be willing to obtain First Aid, WHIMIS, & Health and Safety in 4 Steps

Preference will be given to students enrolled in 1) Children and Youth Care Program 2) Early Childhood Education 3) Social Service Worker Indigenous Studies 4) Social Service Worker
