We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Financial Officer to join our team. In this key role, you will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the department, ensuring sound financial management and providing valuable insights to support long-term strategic planning.
This is a contract running immediately to July 30, 2025 (possibility of extension). On-site work is required in downtown Ottawa (Sandy Hill) 3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budget Management: Oversee budget development and administration, analyze financial performance, and provide expert guidance to managers on budget planning and forecasting.
- Financial Oversight: Monitor financial transactions, ensure compliance with financial policies, and implement effective financial controls.
- Process Improvement: Design and implement efficient work processes and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Record Management: Maintain accurate and confidential financial records.
- Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial reports to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of financial professionals.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a senior financial role.
- Knowledge of the asset accounting cycle.
- Construction or capital project experience is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., spreadsheets, databases).
- Experience with budget development and management.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) is a strong asset.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
