Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized a standalone Payroll Lead to manage end-to-end payroll operations across Canada and the US (Willing to teach the US portion of processing). This standalone role requires expertise in multi-jurisdictional payroll compliance, system implementations, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and demonstrate a proactive approach to process optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently manage full-cycle payroll processing for 500+ employees across Canada and the US (hourly, salaried, and commission-based), ensuring compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local regulations.
- Lead the end-to-end transition from ADP Workforce Now to Dayforce, including system testing, data validation, parallel runs, and user training.
- Serve as the primary payroll subject matter expert, resolving inquiries and providing guidance to HR, Finance, and external partners.
- Administer Time & Attendance systems, expense reporting (e.g., Concur), and statutory remittances (e.g., tax filings, ROEs, garnishments, WSIB/EHT).
- Reconcile payroll accounts, and ensure accurate reporting (T4, W-2, RRSP/401(k) contributions).
- Conduct audits to ensure data integrity, compliance with labor laws, and adherence to internal controls.
- Develop payroll metrics, dashboards, and forecasting models to support strategic decision-making.
- Continuously refine payroll processes, documentation, and automation to enhance efficiency.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on payroll management experience, ideally in USA & CDN
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required; Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation preferred.
- Proven success in leading payroll system upgrades (e.g., ADP to Dayforce, Workday, or similar).
- Advanced proficiency in ADP Workforce Now and Dayforce; strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) required.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, tax withholdings, and multi-jurisdictional compliance.
- Experience with accounting reconciliations, benefit deductions, and year-end reporting.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex payroll concepts for stakeholders.
