Position Summary:The Engineering & Quality Manager is responsible for leading the engineering and quality teams to design, implement, and improve quality and manufacturing processes and systems. They ensure the optimization of production efficiency, quality, and safety while managing resources and budgets. The role also includes collaboration with other departments such as production, people and culture, materials and planning to streamline operations.
Primary Responsibilities:• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, technicians, and other support staff.
• Manage performance, conduct evaluations, and provide training opportunities.
• Ensure team adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
• Lead efforts to continuously improve manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflows.
• Promote a Quality First culture across all departments.
• Identify and implement automation or other process improvements to reduce production costs, improve cycle times, and enhance product quality.
• Provide technical support to plant personnel as it relates to quality.
• Manage certificates including welding certificates, quality audits, customer audits and liaise with external auditors or regulatory bodies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address manufacturing or quality challenges.
• Work closely with production, supply chain, and other teams to align manufacturing schedules with business objectives.
• Monitor and adjust production processes to meet customer demand and maximize output.
• Ensure that equipment and systems are designed to support the production requirements of the company.
• Prepare and manage budgets for engineering and production improvement projects.
• Allocate resources effectively to ensure project success, meeting deadlines and quality standards.
• Oversee procurement of new manufacturing equipment or technology as necessary.
• Facilitate process improvement projects to reduce waste, cost and lead time.
• Ensure products meet customer specifications and comply with industry regulations.
• Analyze and resolve production problems related to quality, production rates, or cost issues.
• Manage engineering projects from concept through implementation.
• Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource plans.
• Coordinate with other departments, vendors, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
• Maintain accurate documentation for manufacturing processes, technical specifications, and engineering changes.
• Prepare and present regular reports on project status, key performance indicators (KPIs), and productivity metrics.
• Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Promote a culture of safety by identifying risks and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Educational Requirements:• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification would be an asset
• Experience in welding environment.
Required Skills & Expertise:
• 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, with a proven track record in leadership and process improvement.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, lean principles, and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with CAD software, ERP systems, and other manufacturing tools.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
