General Summary: Lead TBCA Industrial Hygiene & Chemical Management program at both TBCA facilities, to safeguard TBCA team members against environmental or physical hazards.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Lead Industrial hygiene program creation & maintenance.
  2. Lead air sampling, noise sampling and overall environment improvement activity.
  3. Lead noise reduction/hearing protection activity.
  4. Lead Medical Surveillance Program for Isocyanates.
  5. Lead Respiratory Protection Program.
  6. Assessment of facility lighting to ensure compliance with hygiene factors.
  7. Lead Heat Stress monitoring and program.
  8. Lead Chemical Management program including assessment and approval of chemicals, auditing shop floor, chemical waste areas and for WHMIS compliance.
  9. Lead WHMIS / GHS (Globally Harmonized System) program.
  10. Lead Designated Substance Program.
  11. Support New Model Launch activity or large process change point activity to ensure compliance to Hygiene or Chemical requirements.
  12. Willing to learn, adapt and participate in cross-functional team activity
  13. Willing to cross-train and learn other roles within department as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational/Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Management, Engineering or a combination of other related education and experience.
  • Professional designations, such as ROH, CIH, etc., are considered assets.

Experience:

  • More than 2 years of relevant experience in a related Hygiene, Chemical or Engineering role.
  • Greater than 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing/industrial setting
  • Advanced knowledge of OHSA, CSA, and other relevant regulations in Canada and internationally.
  • Experience working in both office and industrial settings.

  • Understanding of the manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to engage and collaborate with team members of all levels.
  • Ability to use measuring/monitoring devices to assess various hygiene factors.
  • Ability to offer professional advice to protect team member's health.
  • Open to learning about the Toyota Production System and utilizing techniques to reduce waste in its own process.
  • Ability to problem solve and open to learning TBBP (Toyota Boshoku Business Practice).
  • Ability to differentiate between value and non-value-adding job functions.
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Understanding of the organizational structure and terminology.
  • Must be knowledgeable of company products, procedures and equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of Chemical management, WHIMIS, GHS, etc.

Language Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Some knowledge of other languages, such as Japanese, Arabic and Spanish, would be considered an asset.

Computer/Software:

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, Etc.)

  1. Work Environment/Conditions:

Office: Shop Floor Setting, Moderate to High noise level.

Plant: This is a standard automotive plant environment with a moderate noise. PPE, such as safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, etc., may be required in engineering, manufacturing, and other areas. A TBCA Uniform is required.

Travel: Must be willing and able to travel between Woodstock & Elmira facilities.


  1. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting and standing and is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
