ABOUT THE ROLE:

The role will provide support of financial activities to ensure accurate and timely recording, reporting, and analysis of financial information. This includes the preparation of various financial analysis and management reporting relating to various business areas and responding to queries from internal and external stakeholders. Requiring technical accounting expertise, the incumbent is a key Finance contributor to the business and functional areas such as treasury and risk management on specialized topics including CMHC sponsored Canada Housing Trust/Canada Mortgage Bond processes, NHA Mortgage-Backed Securities, and other securitization vehicles.

In your role, you will focus on Risk Management & Compliance, which involves assessing and enhancing control activities related to financial tasks, keeping process and control documentation up to date, complying with all control requirements, and conducting testing processes. You will also support the Senior Manager, Finance Business Support, in collaborating with the internal audit group for CEO/CFO certification.

In addition:

  • Securitization & Structured Finance Reporting
    • Conduct daily remittances and prepare necessary backup support, including journal entries and reconciliations for structured financing vehicles.
    • Handle monthly requirements for NHA MBS issuances, ensuring timely completion of journal entries and reconciliations.
    • Manage and refine process documentation for new deal transactions and enhance templates for various financing vehicles.
    • Serve as the primary liaison for internal partners regarding structured financing programs, promptly addressing inquiries and concerns.
    • Facilitate regulatory and financial reporting, guaranteeing the punctual preparation of all necessary reports and reconciliations.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Reconcile general ledger accounts associated with structured financing products.
    • Prepare and review all documentation related to structured financing activities, including reports for investors and management.
    • Execute month-end closing entries for financial statements as required.
    • Manage journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting for securitization activities (966/965).
    • Conduct variance analysis to support monthly financial statement reviews and provide ad hoc reporting and analytical support.
    • Act as a strategic partner to internal stakeholders for business analysis and review.
  • System and Process Improvements
    • Proactively seek and document opportunities for process enhancements.
    • Engage in projects aimed at advancing financial reporting and analysis, including system upgrades and process documentation.
  • Projects
    • Aid in designing the operational framework necessary for the successful launch of operations.
    • Utilize expertise and innovative thinking to address complex problems and unique situations.
    • Work collaboratively with Treasury, IT, Mortgage Servicing, and external entities on project development, assessing potential business impacts.
    • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders, ensuring strategic alignment.
  • Risk and Compliance
    • Strengthen and uphold internal controls over accounting and finance processes, complying with internal policies.
    • Assist in the review and audit processes of internal reporting conducted by Compliance, CEO/CFO, and both Internal and External Audit teams.

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

  • Authorized to work in Canada
  • Great communication skills
  • University degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
  • CPA/CFA or equivalent accounting designation (In progress or Designated)
  • 3 5 years of Finance and Accounting experience within the Financial Services industry
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills (Advanced Proficiency)
  • Proficiency in SAP Finance systems
