About the Company:
Our client is a leading supplier of engineered wood products and framing solutions serving residential, commercial, and light industrial construction markets across Alberta. Known for innovation, technical excellence, and customer service, they are seeking a highly skilled EWP Designer to join their team in Calgary.
Position Summary:
As an EWP Designer, you will be responsible for creating structural layouts and framing designs using MiTek software. You will work closely with sales teams, contractors, and engineers to develop efficient, cost-effective, and code-compliant wood framing packages for a variety of construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design floor and roof systems using engineered wood products in MiTek Sapphire Structure.
  • Interpret architectural and structural plans, specifications, and building codes to create accurate layout drawings.
  • Provide optimized and value-engineered solutions that meet client and structural requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives, customers, and internal teams to ensure technical accuracy and timely delivery of design packages.
  • Generate material take-offs and provide support for purchase orders and production planning.
  • Modify designs based on feedback or site changes and manage revisions through the project life cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of design work and documentation in the project management system.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in EWP or truss design, ideally within the LBM industry.
  • Proficiency in MiTek Sapphire Structure is required; additional software experience (e.g., AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit) is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes and structural framing practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams and external stakeholders.
