We are seeking a Doula to join our team! You will work with myself as well as other Doula professionals to provide exceptional care to clients.

  • Job Title: Postpartum Doula

    Job Summary: Seeking nursing students or Postpartum Doulas who are compassionate and knowledgeable to support families in their transition to parenthood. The Postpartum Doula will provide non-medical support to new mothers, partners, and families, ensuring a smooth and positive postpartum experience. The ideal candidate will offer guidance on newborn care, emotional support, breastfeeding assistance, and light household help.

Key Responsibilities

  • Newborn Care Assistance:

    • Support parents with infant care, including diapering, bathing, and dressing.
    • Help with creating a soothing sleep environment for the baby and provide guidance on sleep routines.
    • Assist in understanding and responding to newborn cues and needs.
  • Breastfeeding & Feeding Support:
    • Provide assistance with breastfeeding techniques, latch, and positioning.
    • Offer advice on infant feeding schedules and strategies for effective feeding.
    • Support families with pumping, bottle-feeding, and introduction to solid foods as needed.
  • Emotional Support:
    • Offer non-judgmental emotional support and encouragement for the new parents, helping to alleviate stress and anxiety.
    • Help with the transition into parenthood by offering empathetic listening and validating experiences.
    • Be a comforting presence during this challenging and transformative time.
  • Household Assistance:
    • Provide light housekeeping duties such as meal prep, laundry, and organizing baby supplies to help reduce family stress.
    • Assist with sibling adjustment and support other family members during the postpartum period.
  • Provide Education and Resources:
    • Educate parents about postpartum recovery, newborn development, and general parenting tips.
    • Refer families to community resources such as lactation consultants, pediatricians, and mental health support as needed.
    • Assist with post-birth physical recovery by offering comfort measures and suggestions for self-care.
  • Qualifications (must have):

    • Certified Postpartum Doula (CPD) or similar certification preferred (e.g., DONA International, or other recognized organizations). OR Nursing degree (or 2nd year student) OR Early Childhood Education graduate OR Early Childhood Education 2nd year student OR Agree to Postpartum Doula training with Doula Services of Ottawa OR Nanny experience.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and provide gentle guidance.
    • Ability to maintain a calm, supportive, and non-judgmental demeanor in a variety of family situations.
    • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and adapt to the unique needs of each family.
    • Drivers license or guaranteed transportation to clients homes
    • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Good to have
    • Previous experience supporting families postpartum, including newborn care and breastfeeding.
    • Knowledge of newborn care practices, postpartum recovery, and infant development.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and carry baby equipment, as well as assist with tasks that may require bending, standing, or light lifting.
  • Work Schedule:

    • Hours may vary depending on the family's needs, including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.
    • On-call availability may be required, particularly for families who need immediate or urgent support.
