INTRODUCTION:

New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited childrens mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County.

PURPOSE OF POSTION:

The Brief Counsellor provides shorter term individual, family and group counselling to children, youth and their families at home, in school and throughout the community using a brief model of intervention.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assess the needs of children, youth and families, formulating treatment plans including goals and service strategies.
  2. Meet with clients and/or their families to provide support & counselling, using evidence based/informed programs.
  3. Actively participate in the treatment planning process for clients including monitoring of each individual's progress toward the attainment of their identified goals.
  4. Initiate or attend case conference meetings as required.
  5. Provide follow-up service to discharged clients as needed.
  6. Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed.
  7. Act as case manager for assigned client(s).
  8. Provide consultation to New Path staff, other agency personnel or the community.
  9. Function as a supportive member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W)
  2. Minimum two years' experience working with children, youth and their families in a children's mental health or related service
  3. Experience/training in Single Session Counselling
  4. Experience working with evidence based/informed programs

  7. Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds, values, beliefs and traditions of staff, clients, families and communities we serve.
  8. Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions, personal unconcious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives, experiences and their intersectionality.
  9. Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills, that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families.
  10. Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.
  11. Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.
  12. French language is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be available to provide 4 hours per week of direct service to clients after 5PM (evening appointments) to accommodate client and family schedules.
  2. Willingness to travel to other agency offices and the community using personal vehicle. Must have valid driver's license with minimum G2.
  3. Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
