Part of the Taggart Group of Companies, Taggart Investments focuses on acquiring, developing, and managing residential land for the purposes of supporting new home construction. Taggart Investments manages many projects, each at varying stages of the development process. The projects are primarily located in Ottawa and Kingston.

About this Role:The Project Accountant will be involved in full-cycle accounting for various residential land development projects and their related corporate entities. The position includes coordination and review of high-volume accounts payable functions, as well as responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting and project accounting for assigned Ottawa and Kingston residential developments. The Project Accountant will have frequent interactions with the Residential Land Development Operations Team, as well as other accounting and legal staff as required. Reporting to the Residential Land Development Controller, the incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial and project management results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Land Development operations team to track project activities, manage costs to complete, and ensure proper invoice coding aligned with the current budget. Review job costs to flag potential overspending and support cash flow forecasting with the Controller.
  • Oversee the accounts payable and payments function assigned to the Accounting Clerk, including scheduling cheque issuance. Provide guidance and support in completing financial activities such as Statements of Adjustments, HST filings, invoicing, and collections.
  • Prepare monthly financial files for assigned companies, including bank reconciliations, accruals, and documentation. Assist with annual financial file preparation, analyzing phase and offsite costs, and drafting financial statements.
  • Contribute to the development of budgets for new servicing phases, including allocations of land, site planning, and offsite costs. Seek opportunities to improve reporting processes, tools, and spreadsheet efficiency.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date electronic and paper accounting records. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance is required, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience. Project accounting, land development, or construction industry experience is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills, along with the ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and ERP systems; experience with Newstar is an asset.

Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment:

Providing service to several people, working under many simultaneous deadlines.

Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.

Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

Hybrid role, with 60% in office attendance required.

Overtime may be required during peak times and/or based on project needs.
