About the position

We're looking for a Backend Engineering Manager to lead our team in delivering secure, scalable systems that align with Windscribe's goals. The ideal candidate excels in leadership, project management and fostering a high performance culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Management & Talent Development: Hire, mentor, and manage backend engineers, ensuring accountability, performance, and continuous professional growth
  • Project & Process Management: Oversee backend engineering projects, track progress, optimize workflows, and ensure timely, high quality deliverables aligned with business objectives
  • Exemplary Communication: Facilitate alignment between engineering, product management, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and execution
  • Risk & Issue Resolution: Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks while maintaining backend system reliability, security, and performance
  • Transparency & Team Alignment: Improve visibility into individual team member contributions, ensuring all work towards common goals with clear accountability

Qualifications / Experience

  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing backend engineering teams, with strong people management and project management skills
  • Must have experience building large software projects
  • Solid understanding of networking and security principles
  • Expertise in project management, including roadmapping, resource allocation, timeline management and performance tracking
  • Strong technical understanding of backend technologies including Golang, C, Python, and Rust, as well as networking and security principles
  • Experience working with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Linux-based infrastructure
  • Excellent communication skills to bridge technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring clear alignment on objectives
  • Ability to proactively identify, manage, and resolve risks and challenges to ensure smooth project execution and system reliability

Compensation and Perks (value adds)

  • $150 - $180 CAD annually
