About the opportunity:
In this position, you will join a team dedicated to enhancing the parks in Prince George. Your daily responsibilities will include turf construction and maintenance, which entails new landscaping, turf repair, minor irrigation repairs, overseeding, fertilizing, sweeping, and mowing. This role will require physical labor, the operation of equipment, routine inspections, record-keeping, and report writing. You will need to operate small motorized equipment, including a skid steer loader, and will be working outdoors in all weather conditions. Please be aware that you may encounter unpleasant waste materials and other biohazards during your work. Summer seasonal positions are typically subject to layoff in October, with opportunities for annual recall.
About your background:
You should have at least three (3) years of relevant experience in areas such as turf construction and repair, general construction, carpentry repairs, as well as knowledge of horticultural and arboricultural principles related to gardening, landscaping, and park maintenance. Additionally, experience in operating equipment, particularly a skid steer, is required, along with some prior supervisory experience. Ideally, you will also hold a Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification. A valid Class 5 BC driver's license (or an equivalent from another province) is required. The successful applicant must also be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses related to the position. As a condition of employment, the incumbent must complete one course in a subject related to the trade from an accredited post-secondary institution within one year of hire. Specifics: Following established safety protocol, the incumbent may be exposed to unpleasant waste materials and other biohazards in the course of their duties.
