Global Transaction Tax – International Tax
A&M's Global Transaction Tax team is composed of seasoned tax professionals experienced in providing practical tax advice to corporate and private equity buyers throughout the transaction life cycle. By utilizing an integrated approach with A&M professionals with deep operating and financial-related experience, the team uses a focused and tailored approach to rapidly identify and understand potential deal breakers, value drivers and other areas of specific interest to our clients. Our professionals have significant experience on both the buy and sell side of transactions across all industries including healthcare, financial institutions, energy, environmental services, technology, and education.
We are seeking an individual with extensive international tax experience to join our growing Global Transaction Tax team in Toronto. In this role, you will work with experienced partners and teams in Canada and globally on transactions and complex international tax matters to add value for clients while being a trusted advisor. What Will You Be Doing?
As a member of the Global Transaction Tax team and specialist in International Tax you will:
- Develop and implement tax-efficient strategies for cross-border mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and reorganizations.
- Provide expert advice on the international tax implications of deal structures, including financing arrangements, repatriation issues and treaty implications.
- Identify complex tax issues, provide tax analysis and recommendations, and assist with the design and implementation of comprehensive global tax restructuring and planning.
- Assist with tax due diligence engagements, identifying international tax risks and opportunities.
- Stay abreast of developments in international tax laws and regulations, and contribute to thought leadership initiatives through publications, presentations, and industry forums.
- Provide supportive leadership, counseling, and career guidance through mentoring and performance feedback to your engagement team.
- Build relationships across Tax and the rest of A&M. Develop a deep understanding of the areas of expertise across the firm in order to present clients with opportunities for additional support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Law (J.D/L.L.M.)
- Licensed CPA or Licensed Attorney
- 8 + years' International Tax planning experience, preferably in professional services (Big 4 experience, or other consulting/law experience). Additional experience in M&A tax preferred
- 4+ years' experience managing teams and engagements
- Passion for mentoring, coaching and developing teams
- Proven experience working as trusted advisor to clients with a demonstrated ability to help clients understand and interpret analysis, deliverables and recommendations
- Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to establish credibility and influence clients
- Self-starter with a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and the initiative to seek out opportunities and an ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment;
- Leadership, organizational, and project management skills;
- Demonstrated proficiency in written documentation of tax issues and analysis (e.g., drafting of technical memoranda, step-plans, tax opinion letters, etc.)
