Position Responsibilities
The Accounting Manager, IPP (Income Producing Properties), will report to the Director, Operations Accounting and be primarily responsible for overseeing the daily accounting of the Commercial and Residential accounting team including working closely and collaboratively with the property management and accounts payable teams to ensure relevant, timely, value-add reporting, while ensuring adherence to internal processes and brokerage trust requirements. This is an ideal position for an individual looking to take the next step of their career to a leadership role, create process improvements, and further develop their property accounting knowledge and skills across a diverse and growing portfolio encompassing 2,000,000 square feet of commercial properties and over 1,000 residential units across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Denver.
Accounting
- Responsible for preparation and management of information required for the monthly reporting packages to the relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee the monthly accounting processes of ensuring integrity and accuracy of receipts and payables in the accounting system to ensure monthly reports being relied upon by operations is accurate and up to date.
- Ensure lease and vendor set ups are reviewed and approved for set up in Yardi Voyager 7S.
- Review of tenant improvement, lease commission, and legal payments on a timely basis to ensure adherence to lease agreements and obligations.
- Oversee the property management bank reconciliations to ensure all transactions are coded and posted within reporting deadlines.
- Ensure management fee billings are prepared monthly in a timely manner.
- Oversee the annual property tax and insurance payments for the portfolio.
- Oversee the preparation of cash flow and net operating income forecasts on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Work closely with property management in ensuring operating and capital annual budgets are reviewed and prepared within deadlines to ensure delivery of annual rental notices to tenants.
- Ensuring property management and tenant enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner, with a focus on providing exceptional service.
- Engage in continuous improvement in accounting and reporting processes to drive efficiency.
- Ensure all relevant information is communicated to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Ensure processes are compliant with necessary regulators for brokerage requirements.
- Establish a positive working relationship with others both internally, externally and in a team environment.
Leadership
- Provide strong leadership and training to a team of five commercial and residential property accountants, fostering a culture of teamwork, growth, and driving achievement of goals.
- Continually review and propose policies for the property management business division. Establish open channels of communication to foster an environment of continual process improvements.
- Prepare annual performance review for direct reports. Supervise and mentor team members with day-to-day operations.
- Ensure that all deadlines are being met and stakeholder expectations are being managed.
Experience & Qualifications
- Education:University degree or diploma in a relevant field would be an asset and/or aprofessional accounting designation
- Experience: Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in property accounting.Minimum of 2 years experience in supervising a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide explanations, present findings, and lead group discussions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, with all team members at various levels throughout the organization as well as external stakeholders.
- People leadership skills with the ability to provide day-to-day supervision to other accounting team members
- Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible and tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency and calm manner
- Ability to meet tight timelines while managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Proven ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision and take initiative
- Computer Skills:Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Yardi Voyager 7S will be an asset
