Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited (BTN) is one of the largest and most respected growers of garden plants in Canada. We are proud to service garden retailers, landscape contractors, municipalities, and golf courses throughout Canada and the northern United States. We service our customers from three locations in Ontario, one in British Columbia and one in New Brunswick with a total land base of over 700 acres. BTN is currently looking at growing our team at our Chilliwack, BC location. Position: Production Supervisor Scope & Objectives As Production Supervisor, you will work with the Grower to plan, organize and carry out the annual production plan and Supervise any staff allocated to the potting process. The main duties associated with this position may include, but not be limited to; * Selecting staff for various tasks associated with the potting process. * Allocating of equipment needed. * Monitoring the health of all liners from the time of arrival to the time that newly potted plants have been returned to their growing locations. * Work with the Grower to determine the source of BTN inventory to be upshifted. * Carry out all post potting counts and finalize potting reports on a daily basis. * Assess daily needs and make sure supplies such as soil and pots are always available. Specific responsibilities of the position * Set schedules for staff associated with potting such that they know what their individual responsibilities are for each day. * Monitor the activities around the potting machine as well as the crew designated to offload newly planted material in the field to ensure the whole operation is running smoothly and efficiently and that no part of it is falling behind. * Troubleshoot any problems related to the potting machine operation and consult the Maintenance Technician when a solution can't be found immediately. * Ensure that all staff are working safely and that the potting area is always organized and free or clutter and hazards. * Follow the established potting plan and work with the Production Coordinator when changes need to be made to the plan. * Ensure the potting machine and potting area are cleaned at the end of each shift. * Following each day of potting, perform laydown counts and inspect for damages due to transport. Complete and submit a potting report at the end of each day. * Supervise all staff designated to the propagation cycle in the winter season and assign tasks as needed. Ideal Qualifications * Must have an understanding of plant growth and needs * Detail oriented and organized * Good at record keeping * Strong leadership skills * Some experience with transplanting methods is preferred. * Possess a mechanical aptitude. Job Requirements * Will work closely with management to plan and undertake the company's annual production schedule. * Will oversee the day to day running of the potting machine and/or any other production related activities that may not involve the potting machine. * Will be responsible of a crew of up to 15. * Will be responsible for the care and use of production equipment during production activities. * Will work to keep timelines and find efficiencies where possible. * Will be responsible for daily counts, record keeping and logs. * May be required to work in other areas of the nursery when the production cycle is complete.
