(Internally titled Program Attendant)
Temporary (8 Weeks), Full-Time (35 hours/week), On-Site

The City of Medicine Hat is hiring five Day Camp Counsellors and two Recreation Programmers for temporary positions funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. Internally, these roles are known as Program Attendants. As a valued member of our unionized Parks & Recreation team, you'll help ensure patron safety while delivering engaging programs like after-school activities, exciting summer day camps, and community events. This role goes beyond supervision-it's about building community, promoting wellness, and creating fun, memorable experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.

Your key responsibilities

  • Proactively create a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Educate patrons about recreation programs, equipment, and facility services, ensuring they have a positive experience.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, fitness, and customer service staff to ensure smooth facility operations.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, quickly adapting to changes and challenges as they arise.
  • Act as a role model by promoting health and wellness while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or a high school equivalency diploma.
  • Current CPR and Standard First Aid certifications.
  • Experience in recreation programming or day camps is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • This is a temporary position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program. To be eligible, applicants must:
    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age.
    • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment.
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
