Job Title: Assistant Controller

Salary: $90,000 - $105,000/year
Our client in Peel Region, ON is actively looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team. The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the day-to-day full cycle accounting activities including month-end and year-end close processes in accordance with GAAP and internal financial controls. This role is also responsible for ensuring that financial reporting is delivered in an accurate and timely manner. This position will report directly into the Finance Director and has two reports: Accountant and Sales Audit/Treasury Assistant.

Position Description:
  • Manage the month-end, year-end financial close process though analysis and reporting of variances to budget and forecast.
  • Streamline financial reports and reporting processes to deliver more efficient, effective and value-added reporting.
  • Perform daily cash flow projections to ensure adequate funding of the Company's daily operations and compliance with its Loan agreement.
  • Manage all finance activities related to gift cards, property management, commodity tax and recycling remittances and reporting.
  • Manage activities related to banking, corporate credit card, risk management, balance sheet reconciliations, year-end inventory count and insurance.
  • Manage the capital and fixed asset processes.
  • Manage all activities related to external audits of financial statements. This includes preparing working papers, financial statements and working with external auditors to clear all audit issues.
  • Responsible for hiring, evaluating, developing and training direct reports.
  • Other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Internal: Home Office departments, District Managers
  • External: Auditors, Financial Institutions, Insurance companies
Skills & Qualifications:
  • University degree in Business/Accounting, with professional accounting designation (CA/CMA/CGA) or equivalent direct experience.
  • 5-7 years of financial accounting, reporting and variance analysis work experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial systems integration.
  • Extensive experience and understanding in a retail and/or multi-unit industry and/or multi-product line environment.
  • Solid data presentation skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Effective attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Effective problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
