Job Title:Mircrotunnel Boring Machine Operator

Job Purpose and Objectives
The Operator is responsible for the safe, technical, and economical operation of the tunnel boring machine, through the control container, to ensure project is executed within the approved schedule and according to project parameters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate the tunnel boring machine according to provided tunnelling parameters from the client and react to changes in formation as required within these parameters
- Monitor line and grade and operate machine accordingly to ensure alignment remains within tolerances described in project plans and specifications
- Actively participate in MTBM system assembly and disassembly during mobilization and demobilization periods providing technical support (tests and analyses of the machines)
- Responsible for overseeing and assist in daily maintenance and routine repairs of tunnel boring machine
- Assist and Perform Inspection Test Plans on all MTBM utility connections, prelaunch check list with the help of the onsite technicians
- Assist and perform Inspect mechanical installations
- Participate in tailgate and operations meetings and complete manual drilling log as per project requirements
- Actively participate in lessons learned logs
- Actively assist with equipment and technical troubleshooting
- Participate in pre-planning meetings with management and sub-contractors
- Actively participate in all Bothar HSE company standards
- Assisting onsite personnel in day to day tunnelling activities when not operating, pipe prep etc.
- Work closely with shift Foremen to ensure pipe plan is being followed as per design
- Be physically fit to access shaft and tunnel
Key Technical Skills and Knowledge
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following technical skills and knowledge.
- A comprehensive understanding of tunneling procedures, using various techniques and methods
- Experience with operation of microtunnel boring machines to complete Direct Pipe, pipe jacking and Microtunneling projects
- Knowledge of closed Slurry systems with the specific use of centrifugal pumps
- General knowledge and understanding of programmable parameters and ability to read and record flows and pressures displayed on screen
- Knowledge in MTBM lubrication systems
- Basic knowledge of navigation systems (VMT, gyro, laser target etc.)
- Proven ability to work with a team, communication, and troubleshooting skills

Physical Demand
- While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Computer / control station work is required which will involve visual focus on screens and documents.
- Manual dexterity required to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls.
- Required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.
- Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside.
- Capability to work in confined spaces is required
- Working day and night shifts including holidays

Qualifications
- 4-5 years of MTBM operating experience is an asset
- At least 4 years of tunneling experience onsite, knowledge of all onsite positions
- Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Hands on experience in the tunneling or oil field industry, such as Operator, Driller, Heavy Duty Machinery Operator or related experience.
- Relevant work experience with Micro-tunneling Machines and/or Direct Pipe technology
- The following safety tickets are required:
o WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection
Other Relevant Information
- This position is assigned to field locations during operations. Hours of work may vary, including night shifts based on project schedules.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
