Summary

The Road Technician will perform maintenance and repairs on various makes and models of forklift trucks and material handling equipment used by our customers. A Road Technician should be highly organized, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent mechanical repair skills.

Job Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Communicate with dispatcher throughout the day to provide an update on the status of work completed or in progress. Review daily schedule and plan accordingly.
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance, safeties & address breakdowns in assigned accounts.
  • Inspect forklift truck fleet to ensure trucks are working properly and safely.
  • Identify any forklift trucks that need repairs.
  • Identify and, if necessary, remove unsafe equipment from the facility operating area and notify the supervisor.
  • Repair and maintain various types of forklift trucks, including electric, gas-powered, and propane-powered.
  • Test forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly, if required.
  • Communicate with Parts to streamline getting assets back into ready condition.
  • Communicate with the Shop Manager if unable to complete repairs onsite and support arrangements to have the asset taken to the shop.
  • Work within the CRM to upload pertinent information on assets. Review and update the asset list regularly.
  • Ensure all Work Orders are signed by customers for work performed. Communicate any other pertinent information regarding the asset that was not part of the initial check-up/service call. Identify opportunities for the company.
  • Complete and document all work in Salesforce for any work performed.
  • Look for opportunities for rental, sales, or service within accounts being serviced and input them into Salesforce.
  • Keep work area and vehicle clean. Ensure assets are cleaned after work completion.
  • Assist other technicians with major repairs when required.
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations, internal programs, policies, and procedures on company and customer sites.
  • Complete all required training (e.g., HR, health and safety, job-specific, practical, etc.).
  • Review the Health and Safety Policy Statement.
  • Work in compliance with occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Notify managers of any health and safety concerns so they may be dealt with promptly.
  • Protect personal and co-workers' health and safety by working in compliance with the law and established safe work practices and procedures.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
  • Report unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions to the Manager and promote a hazard-free workplace.
  • Perform duties in a manner conducive to a safe workplace, following all safety practices and procedures.
  • Report any incident, injury, or hazard as outlined in procedures.
  • Report any acts of violence or harassment in the workplace.
  • Learn the Emergency Response Plan detailing facility procedures pertaining to fire, weather, or medical emergencies.
  • Responsible for own tools, ensuring they are in good condition and working order.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Completion of forklift truck mechanics training course required.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools to repair forklift trucks.
  • Ability to read repair manuals for various types of forklift trucks.
  • Excellent mechanical repair skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all parts of the forklift truck needing repairs or maintenance, either by kneeling or lying on back.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
